LAND REUSE FOR SOLAR

Spending the weekend in my hometown area of Tampa Bay reminds me that Pinellas County is an overbuilt, tiny peninsula.  That makes the proposal to use an old landfill as a solar farm an intriguing possibility.

A large, ugly swath of land right off Interstate 275 used to be the Toytown Landfill.  Proposals for redevelopment of this piece of land have come and gone over recent years--new home for the Tampa Bay Rays or an office complex. What better place to put a solar farm than on acreage that is unusable for much of anything else?   What a great way to introduce the public to alternative energy as they drive toward downtown St Petersburg.  According to a recent news report, investors may be looking seriously at this site for a solar venture.
