Wal-Mart may make one thing less annoying about shopping in their stores. According to a recent post at reusable plastic bags, the Wal-Marts in northern California have begun charging for plastic bags, emphasizing its 'bring your own bag' movement. Wal-Mart says its goal is to reduce overall wast by 33% by 2013, which includes encouraging customers to bring their own reusable bags. A charge of 15 cents per bag and 50 cents for oversized bags went into effect in October.
Areas in southern California and San Franscisco have been working to ban plastic bags altogether. A bill pending in California would require all large stores (more than 10,000 square feet) to charge at least 25 cents for each one-time-use plastic bag.
